Default oil pressure sending unit?

I have a 96 cherokee sport and the oil pressure sending unit is leaking oil. Went to autozone and they gave me an oil pressure switch and when I install it my guage pegs out and stays there? Is this the correct part or do I have something wrong electrically? When I put my old unit back in it reads about 60 pounds.

Yup. At that parts store, it will most likely be called an "oil pressure switch". I suspect they gave you the wrong part.

And if you have more trouble, get your money back and buy one from Jeep. They are worth the extra $20 in reliability/accuracy/mating with your factory gauge.

There are a lot of guys that have had problems with aftermarket oil pressure sending units.
