Post Oil Pressure Sending unit?

Hey everyone i have a 2001 jeep cherokee sport and about every other time i start it up the oil pressure will go pegged to 80 psi,So then i turn it off for about 30 seconds and its fine it will go back to normal.Is this the oil pressure sending unit? Thanks in advance and sorry if this has been covered but i couldnt find it.

very common for the sending unit to be bad but typically will read low or dead. It's a cheap/easy replacement. Slap a new one on there and see.

There have been some that have had trouble with some aftermarket oil pressure sending units. Including me.

Because of that, I buy this part directly from Jeep for best reliability/accuracy/mating with your factory gauge. Well worth the extra $20.

Yeah, buy it straight from the dealership...much better that other stuff ive dealt with.

also check the connection of the wires going into the unit plug. they are esily fubarred during oil changes if you are not careful.
