Default Oil pressure sending unit

I have a 2000 XJ with a 2004 4.0 motor. The wiring harness doesn't plug into the oil pressure sending unit on the motor. Check gauges dash light stays on b/c no oil pressure showing. I bought a new pigtail for an 04 thinking I could splice it into the harness but it only has 2 wires (the harness side has 3 wires). Don't know if I should try to figure out how to get the new pigtail spliced or if it will even work. If a 2000 pressure sensor threads are the same as the 2004 and will screw into the block I will go that route, just don't want to waste $60 if it won't. Has anyone had to deal with this on an engine swap.

The 2000 OP Sensor threads are 1/8" National Pipe Thread. See if the 2004 threads are the same. If so, install a 2000 OP Sensor.

It's cool, eventually everyone figures out the posting stuff. Ok, so here's some pics of what you need. I'm not recommending the company listed, it's just a good pic. You could reduce the fitting if it's too small. What's the 2004 engine pulled from?

Not sure what the engine came out of. The previous owner replaced the engine and said it's an 04.

I only ask because the Cherokee stopped in 2001, but the motor went on in a few other vehicles to 2006 I think, maybe a bit further. Post a pic of the engine. You can put it in your photos again if you are still on the phone. Either way the easiest thing is to order the sending unit for your 2000 and put it back in the same hole.

Yeah, think I'm going to try that. Thanks, I'll repost when I try that.

The sensors were the same thread pattern, screwed right in and working perfectly. No more check gauges light. Thanks for the help.
