Bought a 97 XJ Country 4x4 for my next project and I want to replace the oil pressure sending unit. It is a 2 pin unit and the XJ has gauges. Does anyone know the correct OEM part # for the 4.0l engine? Everywhere I look seems to list the unit for a diesel engine for this model year. TIA for help.
There are two parts, one for the full gauge cluster and one to illuminate the idiot light. Which gauge cluster does your XJ have?

Thanks salad. It has the full cluster, the oil pressure gauge is reading "0" psi and the "check gauges light is on. Finding the correct OEM part # for this model year with the 4.0l hasn't been as simple as I believed it would be...Originally Posted by salad

Thanks 93gc40, that is the part # I would choose but I cannot understand why it states the part is for diesel. It's confusing.Originally Posted by 93gc40

Try leaving the alpha off the number see what you get. diesel might use same sendor. Like said above the only I think there are only 2 versions, Idiot light or gauge.

My pressure gauge is maxed out but none of my alarm lights are on, Mine's a '96.
I was wondering if the OPSU might just need cleaned off and put back into place, or if they don't do that when dirty and it just needs replaced. My gauge reads off the charts on the high end all the time and doesn't move at all no matter what.
Im not meaning a thread hijack in any way

The OEM sending units are $60 at my dealership, so I cleaned mine out to see if it made a difference.
Got to your local smokeshop (headshop, whatever you want to call it), and get some of those pipe-cleaners made for cleaning "glassware" (they have metal wire in them to really scrub).
Clean the **** out of the passage behind the sender, and clean the sending unit off -- I used break cleaner to get it as clean as I could.
Although I saw absolutely no change in indicated oil pressure when I cleaned mine. If your gauge is maxed out I would assume it has failed.

Oil pressure sending unit with full gauge functionality for the 1998 2.5L and 4.0L gas engines is Mopar part number 56031005. The 1998 diesel engine uses 56041506AA.
This is taken directly from my 1998 XJ Parts Book and confirmed at Rock Auto and www.factorychryslerparts.com.
56031003AB I find listed for the 1996 diesel engine.

Just in case anyone else gets confused when trying to replace the oil pressure sending unit for this MY with the 4.0l, 93gc40 is correct. The chryco p/n is 56031003AB.

Did a search on wholesalemopar.com for 56031003 and it shows a new part number of 56031003AB. Looks like the only change is "AB".
92gc40 and 4WD4EVER are spot on.
