Are you referring to the little push button that turns and the lights and warning buzzers? If so it has a little nut on it, undo that and it should come out.

make sure it doesn't spin too much when installing, as there are wires on the back of it

Default how ?

Yes, it is the push door jamb switch that turns on and off the dome light and buzzer. I see the nut on it, that's not the problem, it seems to be installed from the inside, pushed through the hole and the nut installed to hold it in place...how do you get to the inside to get the switch out ? there's a little hole behind the fender around where the door hinges are...is that where you have to get to ? or is there a way to get to it from the inside behind the kick panel...I haven't found a way yet...thanks

this is what you're dealing with...(see if I can find a bigger picture)
Once the nut is loose, you should be able to get it out.

It just screws into the door jamb, there is no nut inside.

Disconnect the battery before attempting electrical repairs.

Got to ask, have you just tried to loosen the nut? You are over complicating this. Many have taken these out because they go doorless(me included) its not hard

Believe it or not, my '87 still has the little accordion rubber boots on my door jamb switches.

The next time I have it with me, I'll take a picture and post it.

I'll prove all you naysayers wrong.
