Oil Pressure Problems.....
I was having my oil pressure drop to like 10 pounds while idle and fluctuating between 20 and 35 while driving. I thought my oil sending unit was going bad but before I got to check it my jeep just died while going down the road. It wouldn't get fir so I went to trouble shooting it. First I checked the fuel... It is getting plenty of fuel. Still no start... Second I replaced the CPS... Still no start... No fire... Third I replaced the coil....Still no start.... No fire to distributor..... So I pulled the distributor and it had been stripped at the teeth....I then took a flathead and tried to turn the oil pump and it was VERY HARD to turn. So I dropped the oil pan and replaced the oil pump with a high volume pump.... I put my oil pan back on and I put a NEW distributor back on... Then I FINALLY got the darn thing to start and run perfectly! Since I had to drop the pan I also changed the oil and oil filter! Now it will run around 35 to 40 while driving but at idle or a red light it drops to like between 5 and 10... The motor don't change or idle ruff when it does this and when I re-accelerate it goes back up. WHATS THE PROBLEM HERE?! I have a new oil sending unit but I haven't put it on yet... Think that is what it is? Any suggestions or has anyone seen this yet?

Have you check it with a manual oil pressure gauge?. I wouldn't trust the wonky gauge in dash when trying to diagnose oil pressure issues.

I have a question that may seem a bit odd, but when you pulled the sending unit out did you have to drain all the oil beforehand or anything? I need to replace mine and I dont have any oil buckets currently. Also, any special tools? I have all the basic combination wrenches and socket sets, but thats about it. And to top off this list of oil pressure questions, is there a brand sensor that should be best? I dont want to replace it again in a year. Thank you!
