Default oil pressure problem

i have 235000 miles on my 01 XJ i put a new oil pump in around 120000 miles. Oil pressure is dropping to zero when I stop at a light and when i'm running its just over 20. Do i need to rebuild my engine or do you think its the oil pump again? i do here some slight rattling type noises. any help would be appreciated.

thanks

I wouldn't drive around like that. Test it with a mechanical oil pressure gauge

just remember oil pumps dont create pressure they create the flow. bearing clearances are what make the oil pressure

Correct.

And that pressure needs to be verified with a mechanical gauge, not relying on the Jeep dash gauge/sender.

Like the others said. You need to verify the pressure. It may something as simple as a bad sending unit, plugged sending unit ports or even a crappy oil filter.

When and from where? Not that noises are unusual for a high mileage 4.0.
Agreed on the mechanical gauge, do that ASAP. Along with changing any bedliner-wearing oil filters you may run into.

ok i will be taking it to a mechanice to check that pressure but in the mean time i changed the sending unit and it seems be holding the pressure. I am going to put in some 15w 40 and i'll change out that filter too. i thin my CAT is shot too or its the bearings in the motor LOL who knows thanks everyone.
