Oil pressure issues.
Hey guys I was wondering if you could help me figure out what is going on with my 99. Every once in a while my oil pressure will drop and the check gauges light will come on when I stop. When it decides to drop the pressure stays low while I'm driving it but if I shut it off for about 15-20 mins it usually clears it up and its back to normal. It only happens maybe once or twice every few months but its really annoying. I was thinking its the sensor but I'd like some opinions before I get into changing anything just so I know some other options and issues that it could be. Thanks in advance.

IDE do some trouble shooting. You could try putting a oil pressure gauge in place of the sending ing unit. See if you get a different read. I've had this problem as well and it turned out to be the sensor .

Like the others said you need to verify the pressure. But, by what you describe your sending unit is either on it's way out or the ports for either the sending unit or the engine block are plugged.

Check the OPS connector for security. Inspect the OPS connector pins and pin cavities for corrosion. Check the OPS wiring for chafing.
Replace the OPS. OEM is the best but an Echlin OPS from NAPA will work.
