oil pressure issue! help

so on my 98 xj with 4.0 I'm having oil pressure fluctuation at idle it drops down to the first hash and comes back up when I give it gas but never drops while driving. Could the sending unit be going out? Maybe oil pump gettin sluggish?... Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks

Best way to tell is with a mechanical test gage.

To basically see what the actual pressureis, not telling by the dash gauge. I'll get on that tomorrow. Thanks

That sounds like normal behavior to me. The oil pump is driven off the engine, so that the pressure varies with engine RPM. As long as it's not dropping all the way to zero, it doesn't sound like a problem. At hot idle it the gauge should read around the first mark and come up when you increase RPM.
