Default Oil Pressure Issue...

Anyone else here have/had an oil pressure issue? Is it a common thing? I have a 1998 Cherokee. When first started runs great pressure when cold. After it warms up it goes down. Just like when I sit at a light it drops to the first notch after 0...

First things first, get a mechanical pressure gauge and test it see if its actually dropping to 0. One of two things, either the oil pressure sender is going bad or you really have low oil presure.

Mine began doing the same thing oil pressure was low around 7psi gauge would sometimes drop to 0 turned out to be a cracked head and anti freeze had ruined the bearings.

Like stated Put a manual guage on it...if it is indeed low. Replace the Oil Pump With a Standard Volume MELLING. Low oil pressure doesnt always mean Bad bearings...The oil pump is always getting the Dirty Un-filtered Oil.

i think its normal for the gauge to drop when stopped or at idle. when you drive oil pressure should go up.. up to what im not sure but my xj pressure sits say at 1/4 then when driving goes up to round 1/2 or more ...

Default Pressure

My Jeep at normal driving temp at idle is 25lbs and at driving speed is about 50lbs. My old 1929 Ford pickup only carried about 4 to 6lbs at driving speed and that was normal.

Unless your down near the 1st mark on the oil pressure gauge i wouldent worry. Even with the bearing wear in mine after a new head to repair my cracked 0331 i push 8-10psi at hot idle and i feel safe with those numbers. FSM states 13psi at warm idle as a minimum.
