Default Oil pressure issue

Hello Jeep bretheren, the other day out of the blue my oil pressure dropped to about 10 pounds upon start up, then drive. Not long after, the gauge bottomed out, and the red “check gauges” light came on. Was on base and near my house, so I went home. Next day I started up again and check engine light came on with low pressure again, followed by the drop to zero and check gauge light.

i suspected at first a bad sending unit, which I quickly replaced. The pressure is back at normal readings, but the check engine light is still on. I activated the computer diagnostic to display the code upon powering on the vehicle, but after cycling through all nine stages, it did not supply a code.

any thoughts? It has not been driving or running any differently in the 10 or so miles I drove it in this condition.

thanks in advance.

The "check engine light" and "check gauges light" are two totally different animals. If you check gauges light is off and oil pressure is good on your gauge, you have likely resolved that issue with the new oil pressure sending unit.

You still need to get the code resulting from the check engine light. For a 2001, you can't get codes using the computer trick; that luxury went away in mid-1997. You will need either a code reader, a scan tool or stop by a parts store like Autozone where they will read the code for you for free.

Post the EXACT code here for comment, not just a description. With OBD code, interpretation is not always straight forward and often more testing and diagnosis is necessary to determine root cause. Don't buy parts based solely on reading a code.

If you believe that the bad sending unit caused it, then it may not have had enough drive cycles since replacement to reset the fault. If you feel comfortable with just resetting the code thrown, then unattach the negative terminal, then reattach after a moment.
