Just found this thread shortly after having the same problem on my 4.0 '99 Sport ~130k miles. I am only in the research phase so I haven't really done anything for this issue yet. Have you had any success in fixing the problem? What have you tried that hasn't worked so far?
Okay I put an oil pump on the jeep and now the oil pressure is good so far I have driven it for a couple of days and the pressure has been fine I replaced it with a standard volume mellings pump(which is the only aftermarket oil pump ill run have had great success) the scrren and tube were fine everything looked good on the motor. So looks to have fixed the problem!
I did not have to remove the starter or jack the engine up the total process took me right under 2 hours. I put the vehicle on a lift, drainedoil, took the middle exhaust section(from the bottom of manifold to cat)off, took all oil pan bolts out pushed lines aside and the oil pan dropped down. Now without suspending the axle or loosening the engine mounts and jacking up the motor I was unable to take the pan completly out but there was no need to you can flip the oil pan sideways and have more than enough access to remove the oil pump and change the oil pan gasket clean oil out and everything up and reinstall the new pump and oil pan gasket. Then push the oil pan back up I didnt have to make any dowels or anything just put a little Hondabond(or mopar sealent or whatever you use on the 4 corners) and hold the pan in place while you start a few bolts. Reattach the exhaust, add oil, and your good to go.
