Default oil pressure goes to zero at operating temperature

After I ran into a couple trees I notice the oil pressure was low. Noticed wires were ripped out of the oil pan. Figured that was the oil pressure problem the body mechanic agreed. So I put my rig in the body shop and figured the oil pressure problem was an easy fix. After some investigation found out the wires that go to the oil pan are just for the oil level not oil pressure. Replaced the oil pressure relay by the oil filter and checked oil pressure with a mechanical guage.

The guage reads pressure when its cold but as it warms up pressure drops till almost zero. And begins to knock. I'm about to replace the oil pump hopefully that works. I have a feeling it won't.

Is it possible I did damage to the bearings during the accident?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Low confirmed oil pressure and engine knocking = internal problems.

If this started IMMEDIATELY after your accident, it could be related.

If not, then you have a "clearance" problem with either the oil pump, the engine bearings, or both.

How many miles on this engine?

I don't think I hit th crankshaft. The only visable damage to anything underneath was the wires coming out of the oil pan. (I hit the trees on the passenger side, had to replace both doors and hit hard enough to move the rocker panel 4 inches.

The jeep only has 89k on it. This is my 5th one and the only one I spent more than 2k on. I got this one two years ago and have taken very good care of it. Only problem before the accident was dissapearing coolant. Maybe an inch or two every 500 miles, but I did the "oil in the coolant" test and came up negative.

What do you mean by clearance? I consider myself mechanically proficient outside the engine. Internally I reaaly have no idea. I'm not even sure what or where the bearings are.

Thanks guys for your help it very much appreciated!
