Oil Pressure Gauge

Lately my oil pressure gauge has been showing really high, when I let off the gas it jumps up and it's really erratic. I know it's not the oil pressure it's self as the engine would have surely blown if it was the case. Some times it works and other times it doesn't. I'm thinking it could be the sensor but I replaced that and the gauge is working occasionally. Any ideas before I blow a wad of cash on new parts?

Test your oil pressure first. If the sensor is good, then get a gauge.

Pressure sensor is bad.

Located at the filter; check and replace.

if I replace the sensor I'm pulling the piece off and replacing the gasket as it is seeping oil out as well. I'll do that as I have a new sensor sitting in the garage to begin with. I just need to get her back from the transmission shop as I had all the external seals replaced to stop the leaking. I also blew the pump seal in the transmission ha ha ha. **** happens at 187,000 miles!

Oh, buy the way. It COULD still be the oil pump. They can cause fluctuations while they fail. Could also be from the leaks around the filter.

Could also be bad main bearings. But i'd start with the sensor.

Engine. The bearings/races used on the main crankshaft. Usually accessable by removing the oil pan. Let's hope not though.
