Here is a link to how to clean the NSS. Worth a try for your P0705. I'd highly recommend you spray the bolts with penetrating oil a couple of times and a couple of days before you attack this; they can be a bugger.

Over the weekend I took off and cleaned the intake manifold when I replaced the manifold gasket. I believe I removed the IAT sensor and cleaned it, just to be sure the IAT sensor is the one that is actually screwed onto the manifold right? not one of the sensors on the throttle body?

yep. screws directly into the manifold. If you had all that apart, maybe the connector plug got some grime in it and is shorting or something? I'd pull the sensor out, make sure it's clean, and then clean and check the connectors & wires before buying a new one.

Papa of wmpttr125 here: We replaced the valve cover gasket and found no sludge at all. Very clean considering how the oil looks on the dipstick.
