Hi Folks:
I seen a post warning not to use penetrating oil on an o2 sensor. Well, my o2 sensors are covered in oil, I think from a leaky valve cover. It's black with oil in fact. I've read that o2 sensors need to 'breathe' on the outside, as a reference. Could this oil be messing with my closed loop?
The site mentioning 'no penetrating oil' was changing out the o2 sensors, so they were not going to use the old ones anyway. Still, don't use penetrating oil.
2000 XJ 4.0 California emissions, so I have 4 of them bastids..
Oh! No oil? What if I burn oil, or synthetic oil?

Are you getting a CEL? If so, what are the codes?

 

Always just misfires on cylinders, random, but I think mostly 2 or 5. Recently I seen a 3 though. Changed the coil pack, and the CEL started blinking, but just a couple of seconds of blinking. It cleared itself. New copper-resistor plugs. Autolite 985. Plugs look very clean. Flutters sometimes..
