The thicker oil just squishes out of the slower then the light weight oil.

No, 30 weight is 30 weight when it warms up.

What the manual actually says is that if colder temperatures will be sustained for a time, then 5W-30 is desirable.

This helps get the oil flowing easier and sooner during cold starts. Thereby decreasing wear on the bearings, among other things.

You just don't need anything heavier than 30 weight.

Bobistheoilguy.com. Worth a read. It explains oil weights, how pressure is generated, what modern oils and their formulation do to engines designed by Dino oil guys. Time to stop guessing about your oil.

He's not affiliated with anyone either.

Low oil pressure is a sign of poor tolerances.

Best of luck.
