I have a 98 jeep cherokee classic 4.0 and is leaking. this is the top of my engine what is going on here ? and how do i fix it and remember im a newb here lol.

Those pics make it look like the oil cap is leaking. I wouldn't think oil would run 'up' the valve cover if it was your valve cover gasket. But it also appears to be leaking at the valve cover gasket too. Hard to tell w/o seeing it better. Make sure the cover bolts are good 'n snug. (not too snug) Wipe the area around the cap clean, and see if it needs a new seal. If you replace the valve cover gasket, buck up and get the nice rubber one. They're worth the extra couple $$ and the cork ones are crap. Over tightening the cover bolts is probably worse than under tightening them.

clean your valve cover with brake clean, drive it for the day and check, if its leaking at the top by the oil cap then get a new oil cap, if its leaking on the sides then replace the valve cover gasket....very easy....im sure theres a write up on here, if not do a google or a youtube search
