Default oil leak

Probably a stupid question, but could a leaking valve cover gasket cause a dime to quarter size oil spot under the jeep??

If the leak is bad enough. Did you check to see that the leak is actually coming from the valve cover?

im pretty sure it is Looks to be coming from right rear valve cover, and least thats were it seems to be wettest with fresh oil.

If it's actually dripping while parked (whether warm or cold), it's more likely that it's coming from elsewhere (oil pan, rear main seal, oil filter, etc). So yeah, make sure that that's where it's coming from

Yeah mines doing the same. Try cranking down the bolts to the valve cover and hope that it will stop the leak or at least slow it down until you get time to change the gasket. XJs are leak monsters!

degrease the engine and look again. it typically leaks from four places: valve cover, oil filter adapter, oil pan, rear main seal

it only leaks right after i shut off engine, not while running. Just when i shut it off it drips and puddles to dime/quarter size and then is done.
