Default oil in intake manifold

when i was replacing my intake manifold gasket i noticed quite a bit of oil in my intake manifold. I have researched similar problems andd i think it has to do with the vacuum lines coming out of the valve cover, i dont understand the function of the rear vacuum line. i have seen that others put a oil/water separator in this line, is this something similar looking to a fuel filter? also i have not had any oil in my air filter at all.

I am assuming my problem has to do with these vacuum lines because i dont know any other way for oil to get in there. I have checked the lines an they dont appear to be clogged either. Any ideas or solutions would help alot! thanks

Look at your Positive Crankcase Vent or PCV valve to see if it's bad. You should be able to shake it and if it rattles its good ( please correct me if I am wrong someone) if it doesn't it's bad and letting to much pressure build up in your crankcase and causing oil to find new places to go to.

so the actual pcv valve is the one in the rear though? another thing that confused me is the auto parts store told me they dont have a pcv valve for a 4.0 in there

I dug around more and read also that a 98 should have CCV not PCV, so i am thinking my only possible problem is something wrong with the hoses. the rear does have a slight crimp. i guess i will just have to replace them and see. other than that i cant think why it would be having these particular problems?

Follow the rear line from the valve cover to the manifold, Take a drill bit and drill out that brass fitting on the intake as large as you can without destroying it, make sure the lines have no blockages or kinks, this should help your oil situation.

It is possible that the rings are worn out causining excessive "blowby" Have you ever done a compression check?
