Well, I went and bought a larger filter, FRAM for my 4.0 I6 90 Cherokee, and much to my surprise, the threads a smaller on this filter.
I bought a larger filter then the stock with the theory of more stuff being filtered out, based on another thread. Anyhow, does anyone have a FRAM filter number to buy to accomplish this goal? The stock filter is the TG3985.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

According to the FRAM website:
Extended Guard: XG3985
Tough Guard: TG3985
Double Guard: DG3985
Extra Guard: PH3985
In my personal experience, I've never had good experiences with FRAM filters. The pleated elements on the inside tend to buckle and collapse, even with light/limited use. They also break down and send little bits of fabric into your oil pan. Not good. I've used Wix filters for quite a while now, and I've been very pleased with their performance and prices. You may spend a small premium over what you would for a FRAM filter, but the peace of mind and performance makes it worth it. The Wix number for an oil filter for your vehicle is 51626.
Their fuel filters are wonderful, as well.

that you for that information i have only ever dealt with 96+ cherokee engines and i never knew that renix had a different thread pattern. you learn something new everyday
I just did the upgrade and am running a bigger filter in a horizontal positon. It is a cool cheap upgrade. If you do it you can run a bigger more common filter. Hope this helps.
