Default Anyone else notice?

Anyone else notice from the photo how "Clean" it is where the filter seal and adapter mating area is? Looks to me like oil might be "washing" all the dirt off right in that area. Loose filter? two seals mating by accident? Filter distortion from being over tightened?

I have to confess that I have over tightened and distorted the mating surface of filters causing them to leak a few times myself. This is what happens when a Heavy Truck Mechanic gets ahold of an Auto filter

I've either been really unlucky and had 3 or more bad filters or it's not from the filter. I check and make sure the seal come off with the filter every oil change, on tighten by hand but tighten very snug.

As clean as it is right there though it looks like the source is right in that area. Like mentioned already probably the adapter O-rings and it is leaking down onto the top of the filter from behind

Another thing I've noticed it oil comes from somewhere and hits my exhaust and creates a giant cloud of smoke if I leave my jeep in drive for long highway drives at like 70-80 but if I put it in 3 then it doesn't but it sucks gas in 3 and i don't get why it smokes in drive. It seems like when under load it blows oil or something but when revved high with less load it's fine?

And worth every penny when compared to leaking oil everywhere, staining the driveway and always having to keep a spare quart of oil around.

Mines not that bad yet. Stays in the "safe" zone till the next oil change. But I'm going to do the adapter and change the oil soon because I have to take a 2 hour trip pulling a trailer on the highway and I don't want to have to keep it in third gear the whole way.

Looks like it may still be leaking... Anyone know how tight to tighten it? Maybe didn't tighten enough or over tightened it?

Did you replace the oil filter that may have been squarshed?

Don't get your shorts in a knot just yet. Drive it a bit.
