Default Oil drain plug

Would putting some liquid gasket maker or JB weld around my drain plug on my oil pan stop the small leak? I've already replaced the plug and gasket last night when I changed my oil but it still has a small leak. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. It's a 96 xj sport with 4.0 H.O.

I wouldn't call it a leak I saw a drop of oil come around the plug.

You will kick yourself in the nuts if you put either of those on it. Are you absolutely sure it's the plug leaking?

Drain the oil into a clean container for reuse.

Examine the drain plug threads in the oil pan closely using a strong (bright) flashlight and a mirror to see if the threads are dicked up and check the sealing surface for the drain plug gasket to see if there are burrs or deep scratches. Verify you have the correct drain plug and gasket.

Don't the '96 and earlier models use a crush washer that needs replacing every so often? I remember owners of earlier Jeeps commenting on how strange my 1999's integral gasket was.

It is not your drain plug, You have a leak some where and i am telling you it is coming from you engine. Valve cover or somewhere. It always looks like it is the drain plug.
Your engine is slanted up and the oil will flow down to there.

The 96-99 use the same OEM part number (6035417).

OP may want one of these. Dorman part number 65267.

I personally replaced the valve cover gasket, rear main seal, oil filter adapter o rings, and oil pan gasket and STILL had weeping from my oil pan bolt.

i put a little teflon tape around the bolt one time when i was changing the oil and its stopped ever since.

And my bolt had a crush washer too, didn't seem to help that much.

Yeah... Be sure it's not just dripping down from somewhere else making it look like it's just coming from the drain plug. But if it really is the drain plug, use the part # that CCKen referenced

Well it's not the plug it looks like either a rear main seal leak or oil pan gasket. I'm leaning towards the RMS can I put some bars leak or CRC Enginseal for the leak? It's a DD but total mileage is only 50 miles a day. It's a standard so id need to add the stop leak to the transmission if I'm not mistaken.

What? Why would the transmission leak engine oil?

If you have a leak, fix the leak. Nothing you can add to your engine to plug holes won't cause engine issues, too.
