Hey guys,
I have a I6 '89 Jeep Cherokee. when I first got it (back in January), I noticed that there was oil in the air filter so I changed it, but oil still gets in there.
I changed out the CCV once, which came with new hose's. I have to clean out my air box and replace my air filter every I do a oil change. I don't think this is normal, but if it is please tell me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If both ccv things in the valve cover are new or are clean and you're still getting oil, then you may need to clean the baffles underneath the valve cover

Question.... I know the.stock ccv fitting on the vacuum side is small and.straight through but how big is the opening of the.fitting on the inside side of the ccv elbow that connects to.the air cleaner where it goes into the valve cover?? Also anyone know.why the vacuum side is straight through and not a.pcv.value?

The two crankcase elbows/grommets that you see on the valve cover are essentially an easy PCV system that requires no actual pcv valve. Same function. Different engineer. Good question.
They get easily clogged with old oil gunk. When the back one does, the vacuum caused in the airbox/throttle body/intake manifold under heavy acceleration pulls oil into the airbox.

But does the front one have a large opening into the valve cover or a small one like the back? Curious cause oreilly has a Chrysler elbow that has a small opening on the inside the value cover side and the one in mine is straight through the size of the hose running to the air box. Wondering if the po put this in and used the.wrong part. Wouldn't be the first thing he did.wrong. I've just never seen an original elbow except what I assumed is original on mine.

Uhm... I'm pretty sure I have the Elbows correct but some of the hose's didn't connect to anything. I'm sure the hose's goes somewhere but when I got the jeep it was missing hose's so I have no idea where some of the hose's go. (one of the many things I'm sure that I'm not doing right...)

Really important to remove the valve cover and thoroughly clean the baffles, along with new CCV hoses. Replacing the two hoses often is NOT enough.
87-90 are especially susceptible to "oil in the air filter box".
If the above doesn't resolve, it is possible that you have true "blowby", which means the piston rings are not doing their job.
