The FitchBox is pretty dang cool. Before I even heard of his relay box design I had already built a rather sloppy relay box of my own in a Plano tacklebox. After a few failures due to my own inexperience and bad wiring a pulled the tacklebox out and took it apart. I've been working my second version which is much more organized and is located in a much better suited enclosure, a radioshack project box (like fitch's box). Here's a pic of my sloppy old tackle box...

I wish I had some pics of the current design, much better IMO.

If you buy a good set of lights they will most likely come with all the wiring you need including relay. You will most likely have to splice in wire for the constant power for the lights since your running them further away then a bumper or A pillar. I would run a relay too. I even have them for my small off road lights on the front of my CJ. Plus try and get a higher amp switch like a 30 or so would be good.

Take off the driverside roof rail that runs from front to back. Drill a hole where the rail will cover it . Run your power wire through it and silicone the wire and hole. Put rail back on . Mount the lights to the roof rack. Put a 2x4 under the rack so you dont over drill into the roof.Run the power wire behind the windsheild trim. Run the ground to the screws that hold the rail in place.Connect your switch and your done. I have a 96 XJ also and did the same thing. Go to walmart and get the rectangle BAJA lights . $20 per pair and work great. You might wanna consider 4 lights. I did 2 at first and put 2 more on cuz it looked like Mickey mouse. Glad I did cuz its alot brighter and looks way cool. I have a total of $45 into them including wire loom and zip ties to dress up the wires outside. Good luck. PS it took me about 2.5 hours to do this. Not bad for a great result.

I just wired them all together to 1 switch . Theres 1 wire going through my roof and thats it. Seems to be working fine. Ive had them in for about a month and a half. I use them all the time. I used splice connectors for each light. Grounded 1 set to screw that holds rail on ds and 1 to screw that holds rail on to ps.Dont forget wire loom and zip ties. It cleans it up and makes it look nice. I tried to give pics but I cant get them on here for some reason.

Have to check the wiring on mine, had on set on and used connectors for the 2nd set. Keep burning the switch out, slightly melting the connector.

I used an upgraded swith on mine cuz the 1 that came with it was cheap. But thats all I did, no melting problems.

Sorry I know this thread is really old but could I run 4 lights to one beefy relay? And consequently to one switch (which shouldn't matter cause all the power is going through the relay right)?
