Default The Official WTF Noises Thread

Ive recently acquired a few new obnoxious noises in the xj. Let this be a place where we can share our squeaks, knocks, pounds, clicks, and what ever else we may hear. Hopefully this will turn into a nice thread where we can offer assistance and help others fix these annoying problems: That being said...here is mine...when cold I get a creaking steering for a few minutes, also I have gotten a loud pounding when backing..its random though, and some pops at turns. Any ideas? Lets hear yours!

Xj88, that loud pounding when backing up might be your tranny mount going out. Slide under your rig and see if you can push up on your tcase. I have a chirpy sound coming from my dash when I'm in between 45 and 55mph.

Oh where do I start?

locker in the rear is alittle worn from life on 35's so it pops and bangs as I shift thru the gears, the best is when turning at a light and the locker slips and BANGS and scares the people next to me lol. Also after jumping my jeep I get alot of creaking noises from the chassis and I can hear the tailgate hitting one taillight on uneven ground like entering stores from main roads. My trans bearings like to whine on long trips, hopefully synthetic gear oil fixes that for it seems to help around town. Since installing aftermarket motor mounts my dash and center counsel make a bunch of noises.

My solution to all of these: a better stereo system
