Off the wall cooling question
Warthog,
Thanks for the heads up on the dealer's hose that you bought. I will check it out and get them to verify it.
OnlyInMyXJ22,
It runs at 212 degrees when idling, but as soon as you start to rev it up, like getting on the freeway the temp gauge heads for the red zone and stays there until you hit the nearest off ramp and just take city streets. That was with the A/C on low so the elec fan is on full time. It would seem that the temp would come down when the engine is just cruising at 65 mph and turning at approx 2,500 rpm per the tach, also it is an automatic trans.
So I will check on the dealer's hose and get the new CSF 3 pass radiator and see if that cools it down with a 50-50 mix and water wetter in the cooling system.
It's not my daily driver so there is time to get the right parts and set it up correctly.
Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions.
Bob

Warthog,
I just got back from visiting two Jeep dealers parts dept. and the first had the hose but without a spring, looked like a aftermarket like NAPA. But they ran the number on their locator and it showed a close by Jeep dealer that had a "Jeep" hose, callled them and it did have the spring inside.
Long story short, $22.50 and a short drive I have a new hose with spring, now for the CSF 3 pass radiator, new coolant, water wetter and it should be working again on the freeway........
Thanks all for the help!

Thank you for all for the help and suggestions,
After replacing the (195 degree) Stant thermostat, the original radiator with a CSF all metal 3 pass, the correct lower hose with spring inside, new upper hose, and new 13# Stant pressure relief cap.... It is now happy and runs just under the 210 degree line, when it is idling, crusing on the freeway, (no A/C on and that is without the elec. fan coming on. (Water pump was already replaced along with the heater control valve).
The elec fan does come on when the A/C is on and it also comes on when the cooling system (prior to replacement parts) was getting over 220 degrees. So now it appears that it is working as designed and staying in the correct temp range.
I'll run it for a few days, change the mix to 50 / 50 water and antifreeze and add the water wetter and see what if anything changes. (it has a gallon of antifreeze and the rest water at this time)
Thanks for the help and suggestions,
Bob

I usually just drain my radiator and re-fill it ever year but I am seeing it now that it is turning brown in color. What is the cheapest way that I can flush my whole system without spending $75.00 at an oil change place? Thanks
