Default On/off switch for Power Inverter

Just got a power inverter and want to install it in my jeep. Can I put an on and off switch on the positive cable?

short answer is yes, the long answer is yes with a boat load of don't forget to do this, that, and a bunch of other things. Do you know where you want to mount the inverter? do you know how you want to route the cables? Are you looking to install a Battery master kill switch under the hood or a switch mounted somewhere in the cab? Or might it be worth your time to leave it "floating" in the cargo bay and use the ole alligator clips on the battery terminals when you actually need to use it? Do you know the power requirements of the items you intend to plug into the inverter and does the inverter match/exceed them? Too many variables go into the question to be able to give a tailor made answer. Also this should be in the Modified Tech section.

An indicator light in the dash somewhere may help keep from forgetting & running the battery down, when the inverter is on....

It's going to be mounted in between the passenger seat and council. Going to run a plug to the rear of the jeep and since it has usb I want to put a usb hub also. Want it hard wired to battery but want an on/off switch on the cable going to battery along with a 50amp fuse. And a light indicator would be cool too.

How / why did you determine you need a 50A fuse?

Just curious.

Use a lighted switch controlling a relay, with the relay connecting battery power to the inverter. You could tap an ACC line to power the switch, so the inverter could only work with the key in ACC or ON, so you never have to worry about forgetting to shut it off.
