Do I need the 12v high beam wire for the switch?
and if so what would happen if I wired it straight to the battery? I dont want to tap it into the high beam wire.
thanks in advance guys
I just put in two Hella fogs on my 99 bumper with upgraded 12 gauge wiring soon to replace the 55w with 100w

you need a relay in there to do it right. or else you'll burn up the switch. do a quick search on here or cherokeetech.com and you should find it. its pretty easy. id link it for ya but im on my phone

No I got the relay and all. I just need to know if I need the wire that hooked up to the switch to the high beam wire in my head light harness or can I leave it out, since all its really doing is tuning on the relay why would the switch it self need a 12v source going to it?

There were a couple different factory configurations depending on year, some used the high beam bulb as "ground" for the fogs- it shuts the fogs off when the high beams come on. Others used power from the low beams or parking lights.
You can skip all that if you aren't concerned about the fogs only running with low beams.
+12V to the switch. Can be from battery, ignition, your choice. Power out of the switch to the relay coil. Other coil terminal grounded. Relay contacts: one to battery +, other to fog lamp bulbs.
Closing the switch supplies power to the relay, which then closes the connection from battery to bulbs.
