The rear elbow with the orfice that gets plugged is Dorman #47057 and the front one is 47079. I changed mine and the back one was totally plugged, made a world of difference. Oh those part #s are from oreillys site

47057 is this:

47079 is this:

Those are for HO, not what you need.

Do you know the part #'s for the rubber grommets? I just took a look and they have a ton of different grommets to choose from. Napa is the same way. Not sure if it even matters I guess

My '89, and my 91, and my 95 and my '03 Rubicon all are 4.0's They all use the same elbows and the same grommets. And they all break when you try to take them out.

I suspect if you have something different the previous owner mickey moused it by trying to adapt something from a parts house.

Why not do it right - get the elbows and grommets from the Jeep Dealer. They will have the right ones and probably are the same price within a few cents.
if I remember right, the last time it cost me about $12 for the entire package.

If a dealer isn't handy, call one they can mail it to you.

When installing the grommets put a little oil or Vaseline on them - they'll go in much easier.

Why does something so simple have to be hard?

i disagree... ive looked at all years in the JY plus the several i have owned and there are different ones used between several different models of the 4.0... some MAY work with other valve covers (fit)... but they all are NOT the same... this i know for a fact... and nobodies making anything hard... just wanting correct information... it may be easy to change but that doesnt mean its easy to find the correct information... and the dealer doesnt go back this many years anymore... they have long since stopped producing these parts... as least my dealer doesnt deal with any of it anymore from the older renix years at least.. they may carry 97+ stuff but its scarce...

The renix valve cover is cast aluminum, not stamped steel like later models. It also has a totally different CCV/baffle setup, the renix has "towers" inside (see my vc gasket writeup), the HO does not. The holes are not the same size as on a HO.

91-94 had cast aluminum also, and looked like this:

95/96 like this:

and 97+ like this:

Odd - my dealer had them for the '89 in stock. I also broke the elbows on my '03 Rubicon. I bought both sets at the same time - identical sets.

The parts guy said they keep them in stock because they break them themselves. Your dealer must concentrate on selling new cars, and not service.

The valve covers are different.

I've spent the past couple months trying to track down this exact part. Mine was torn in half. And no part stores seem to know what i need. I've tried making a few different things work, but none have worked how i'd like them to. It really is just a big fat rubber elbow that goes in there.

If anyone figures it out, i'd be very happy.

Renix can use the "PCv" elbow I mentioned. I can post a pic later or tomorrow.

Ive tried one of those though, and it didnt vent enough and built up too much pressure in my valve cover and was blowing oil all over. Yes, it does fit. But it made my situation worse haha

I put a compressed brass breather on my renix on the front of the vc, and used air brake fittings and a line on the back to vacuum. Works fine.
