OEM Paint
I bet if you looked at my Jeep from 3 feet away you wouldn't be able to tell it was a rattle can.
If you look close you'll see the overspray and such because I didn't care when I did mine.
If you took your time, did the correct prep work, yours would make you happy.
But to each his or her own.

Sand the rust down to clean metal, then clean it off with a solvent cleaner and right after that hit it with a darn good primer.
I use 3M Self Etching primer - it seems to really do the trick.
You can then prime over that before putting down the color/clear coats.
Painting a solid color on a relatively flat surface isn't that bad. Get some pieces of scrap sheet metal and practice.
Like others said .... you might be so pleased with yourself, you'll want to shoot the entire vehicle.
Oh .... before you spray any paint, make sure you mask off and cover EVERYTHING you do not want painted. Especially if painting inside a garage where paint can linger in the air, unless well ventilated.
I've done entire vehicles in the driveway under a tent made with plastic drop clothes!
I have one red and one dark green XJ - seriously thinking of painting the roofs on them white .... reflect off the sun ... keep them cooler.
The green one may be turned into all white.

If it's just little spots why dont you just get a paint pen to do touch ups? I do touch ups every now and then, you cant even tell they are there unless you look
Did anyone suggest good prep work? Because thats a good part of a good paint job. Doing good prep work.
So if no one suggested good prep work, I will.
Doing proper prep work will help yeild awesome results.
Prep work. If you didn't catch it the first time.

For painting your own rig the duplicolor system is a great want to get every thing you need for a low cost. No mixing just pour and spray in a gun. I've done rattle cans (my XJ) and going to be doing the Duplicolor system with a wagner type power sprayer on my buddies buggy. on both not going crazy with higher end guns and such because they are both trail rats but want to have them look good.
like a few others have said prep prep prep take your time and you'll be amazed at what you can do
