Hello all,
I've recently purchased a new (to me) 1997 XJ two-door and it's my second Jeep. My first Jeep was a 2000 XJ two-door and it a had few options that my current Jeep doesn't have and I would really like to add them and could use assistance please. Also, it's got a few little problems that I'd like help addressing if possible as well!
-No A/C - I've located a guy willing to sell me an A/C set up but he suggested I pick up a brand new evaporator as they go bad sometimes. Does anyone know where I can find a do-it-yourself A/C install? It's too damn hot in NC not to have A/C!
-No rear wiper - Is it as simple as getting a wiper switch and motor/wiper assembly from a wrecked Jeep? I'm assuming the wiring for a wiper system is already in place?
-Turn signal tree doesn't reset itself. It functions but once the turn is complete the dang thing just stays on. I don't know if the signal switch is broken or if this is normal for the 1997 model, but my 2000 model turned itself off.
-The locks all seem sticky; the front two doors function but feel kind of rough. Put 3-1 oil in them? Grease? The rear hatch is another story; the lock functions but the catch seems to catch and it takes some wiggling to get it open sometimes. I'm afraid at some point I won't be able to open it - Is this a common problem and is there a fix? Do I need to replace the locking mechanism?
-Sometimes, when starting, the engine seems to hesitate or won't start immediately. It almost seems like it's at a high-compression stroke or something and the starter doesn't have enough *** to turn it over. So the starter could be taking a dump...my other thought is possibly that the battery is on it's last leg, which is possible. But then the next second the engine starts just fine...beats the heck out of me?

Thanks for any advice you can provide,
-Matthew

Have the A/C done by a shop, they have the needed equipment and knowledge.
Not sure about the rear wiper, you'll have to see if the wiring is all there and if there is a spot for the wiper arm shaft to poke out of the deck lid. Any kind of light lubricant will work on the locking mechanism. Pull the trim panel off of the rear gate and adjust the mechanism. Check your battery connections and clean them.

There is a spot for the wiper arm shaft to poke out of the deck lid; it's got a little plug there right now. I'll check out the wiring situation, I certainly hope it's there.
Didn't think about the battery connection! Great thank you.

the turn sinal issue is most likely the clock spring in the steering wheel, other symptons may be horn not working or erracticaly working, and or air bag light on.

That damn rear hatch is really starting to **** me off; when I pull the back molding off how do I "adjust" it?

You will see a rod with ridges on the rear latch handle inside the lift gate, carefully unclip the gray plastic linkage connector and move it one way or the other.
