Default Odd rubbing noise coming from the rear

Hey guys so I've got an odd history with my jeep. I bought it with a busted tcase; I replaced it 1.5 months ago also put a 3.5" lift on at the same time. A week after my first wheeling trip with it I developed an odd rubbing noise while in drive, it's noticeable once above 5mph

I took it to a shop and they said it was the tcase. I just finished putting in the tcase and took it for a test drive, the noise is still there!

So I took my diff cover off the back. And the nastiest primordial ooze came out, it was nothing like the gear oil that came out of the front. No chunks of metal or gears fell out.

What should I be looking for that's creating this rubbing noise?

May I add it alternated sound with throttle application. Let off the gas and the sound all but went away.

Yucka. Looks like water got in there and churned up pretty good. Or someone filled it with pepto-bismol. I'd clean it out, refill, run a few miles then drain and refill- repeat a couple times and see if the noise goes away...but prepare to have to replace bearings.

Definitely possible I was launching a boat weekly with this jeep earlier in the year. I'm filling it up tonight and will see how it goes

Just changed out the fluid; still getting the same rubbing noise; any other ideas? I'm planning on looking at it tonight and tomorrow; if I can't figure it out by than I'm taking it to a shop (definitely not the same one as last time)

I got around to putting my jeep on jackstands; it sounds like the rubbing noise is coming from the trans or engine

I'm going to take it to a shop to confirm, but I might be in the market for another XJ soon
