Default odd rattling/ticking in engine?

My engine is making an odd sound. sounds like its coming from the drivers side of the engine compartment... Can't really think of how to explain it. Any ideas are welcome.

99' 4.0 4wd... auto. thanks in advance

Cracked exhaust manifold, broken exhaust clamps, bad motor mounts, lifter tick, any of those. you should get a bit better idea where it is coming from, try using a piece of hose as a stethoscope to find the location. Just don't get it stuck in any moving parts...

can someone point me to a video of a cracked exhaust manifold? its a very strange sound to me. I'm pretty sure its not a tick from the lifters of rods... I'll do a search myself till my class break is over. thanks again.

you will find hundreds of vids with a basic search like you are doing now. You can visually inspect the manifold, piping, clamps, and engine mount to see if anything is wrong. Until you do that, it is hard to pinpoint with the details you provided.

I listened to the engine with a long screwdriver, everything sounds normal. I put my ear close as I could to all of the pulleys, im thinking water pump? Seems like a common issue after some searching. Tomorrow I'll take the belt off and check it out.

Ok so confirmed it's the water pump. It's quite loose. However now I need to drive to the store and get a new one. How tight does the belt need to be? Lol

It isn't. (seriously)
It really does need to be very, very, very tight. I can't turn mine 90 deg, no way. (did I mention it's very, very very tight?)
