Default Obd2 port not reading

My jeep Cherokee 2000 is blowing check engine light . Tried plugging into scan tool and have no power/ability to read connection. Scan tool plugs into other jeep no problem at all. Is there a fuse related to this?? What could cause the ovd2 port not to connect?

Mine sometimes does this..... must be an XJ thing..... I would recommend cleaning the contacts to the pcm with contact cleaner though.

Go to the data Link Connector.

Top row of pin cavities, the second and third occupied cavities (from the left) are the ground cavities for the DLC. They go to the oil dipstick tube mounting bracket stud on the left side of the engine.

The pin cavitiy on the far right on the bottom row is the 12 VDC power supply to the DLC.

Using a voltmeter, measure from the one of the top row ground pin cavities to the power pin cavity on the bottom row, you should see 12 VDC. If not, switch to the other ground pin cavity. If still nothing visually check the two wires at the oil dipstick ground point. If they are intact and free of corrosion, use an Ohmmeter to check the ground wires from each of the ground pin cavities to chasss ground. You should see continuity (.5 Ohms or less).

Power to the DLC comes from fuse F17 in the PDC. If it were blown other circuits powered by this fuse would be inop as well, such as the headlamps.

Pin cavities on the DLC must be corrosion free and not have expanded pin cavities from Bubba shoving meter probes in the cavities.

Edit: The above is for powering up the scanner only. If you get a scanner message that the scanner won't communicate with the vehicle, the SCI circuits may be bad. A problem for another day.

Sci circuits?

The obd2 port didn't work about 2 years ago which I forgot about when before I tried using the scan tool yesterday. Jeep runs decent w no crazy issues (besides cooling sys) with obd2 port not sending/working. Now check engine lights on and can't read the code to fix
