obd-2/inspection plug failure
So i took my 99 jeep cherokee to get inspected and the mechanic said he cant do it because his plug cant communicate with the jeep!... i dont know what to do or where to start. a few days before i left lights on and it killed the battery to the point where i jump it and it wont hold idle. So I took it right over to advance auto to see if their code reader could communicate and it said that it had a pending code (o2 sensor)and all drive cycles were not complete. Is that why it cant communicate? It did not fail it could ot communicate. Help!!

Go back to advanced and see if they can still read off of it. If they can with their dinky machine, the inspector guy can.
If advanced cant read off of it, tell them they read it the other day, and ask them while they are out there what could be the issue. could just be a loose wire going to it.

Hmm... I am curious about this. I work tonight, but i will take a look at my jeep tomorrow to And it is slightly BS that they can't inspect your jeep because they can't read codes. Remember how they didn't need computers to do their jobs for them (granted, the cars were much easier back then, so not knocking them.)

most obd2 ports are powered off the cigarette curcuit. if that fuse is blown the reader wont connect/communicate with vehicle. i was a parts counterman for 8 years, and dealt with that alot. worth a shot i guess, but doesnt explain why he couldnt check it and advanced did right after tho if i read that right above.
