O2 Sensor swap
Hey guys.
Again I'm an American in Australia. Own a 96 xj 4l ho efi 4 door
Bought myself pre cat o2 sensor recently and post cat o2 sensor a year or so ago. All good.
The bracket came loose and the sensor wire must've hit against the driveshaft during offroading or so.
Brand new sensor basically costed like 100 bucks and I don't want to replace it just yet. Took it out to resolder the wires. No idea where the wires go because it was ripped out of the aluminum shield... next plan...
I put the old pre cat o2 sensor in its place until I can try getting the post cat o2 sensor replaced saying it's faulty or something wish me luck.
Comes to the question. Would it make a difference? The same connection and same diamater sensor. Only difference is my old pre cat o2 sensor has less holes then the relatively new post cat o2 sensor.
Or any idea which wires go where so I can repair it? Two blacks one gray one white I believe. Two blacks on opposite ends so I only need to know where the single one goes white or gray.

If the 2 sensors are the same you should be able to look at the good one to see which wire is which. When I got one of my keeps the downstream O2 had apparently done the same. PO had used electrical tape and wire nuts to put it back together. I took it out and soldered it and it's been fine.

Different # of holes, so they are not the same.
Are the part numbers interchangeable? If not, don't swap them.

Here's the O2S' you need. Upstream is different from the downstream.
Pigtails are different lengths and the sensor probes are different.
The O2S' should be changed as a pair. Do not mix brands or new and old O2S'.
