If the wires are ripped out, just use a deep socket on it.

Anyway, since no pics were posted, we don't really know the wires were completely ripped out, often times they don't get completely ripped out, just torn off.

But you are right, if all the wires are just ripped out, then you will need to get another sensor.

You need the upstream sensor and the downstream if it was equipped that way. Negative effects on engine operation will manifest quickly without them.

Yeah. For example my upstream o2 sensor is just hanging down by my front diff. Snapped off somehow. Still runs though. Just getting poor gas mileage.

Downstream o2 sensor will only toss a CEL. Nothing more will happen.
