Hello all. I finally got my license so watch out. Anyways, while driving today I turned my running lights on and my brake lights come on and stay on and the brightness does not change when I put the brakes on. Same goes for headlights and high beams. Also when I turn off all lights and I push the brake the clock on the radio and the mileage dim and the dash lights come on. I recently replaced my NSS. With a Chinese one off eBay. I'm thinking that is the problem. I do have reverse lights. I understand that you can adjust the switch but I'm not sure how. All fuses are good and everything is running and working well as far as I can tell. Help would be much appreciated

Why not unhook the nss and then try to see if the problem is still there?

Bypass it? Or start it and unplug it? Do I have other options

Dought there anyway related but this seems pretty straight forward test .

Sounds like more of a ground, or lose, bad connections.

Ummmm how are the headlights/running lights connected to te brake lights

Electrial issues don't play fair when trying to be diagnosed . Last electrical item serviced should be first eliminated in trouble shooting.

Can someone point me in the right direction please? I gotta figure this out ASAP.

If you want to isolate the Transmission Range Sensor (NSS) disconnect the connector in the photo below marked "TRS/NSS". The photo is of a '99 installation. I'm sure the '97 XJ connector is Black instead of Gray.

You can judge by the photo where these connectors are.

What will that Do for me? Could I be pinching wires with the brake pedal? Bad ground somewhere? Moisture in tail lights sockets? Both of my blinkers work an the passenger side brake light is not dim (these are some symptoms other people have had). And just for reference which tail lights should be lit when the headlights are on. Like what lights are lit at night. And I have seen nothjng about interior lights dimming when I push the brake pedal and the dash lights/shifter lights illuminate as if the headlights are on. Totally bizarre.

Could the double filament bulbs in the brake light be bad. Like one of the filaments burnt out so they are bright all the time.
