Default NSS questions

Will a nss quit all of a sudden with no problems till one day at noon it just will not start?I jumped the solenoid terminal and got it to start but no back-up lights.

When mine went out I had a check engine light come on and no reverse as well. Worked when jumpered as well. When it first happened it would start and run but a few days later stopped. I'd say rebuild that one then go from there if something else. Hard to diagnose 2 things at once.

That happened with mine. Just quit one day after owning it for almost a year. Then it would be fine for a month and cut out again. There are write ups for taking it off and cleaning it. Some come off easier than others. Mine would not budge and I ended up cracking the housing.

If you hold the key over, and jiggle the shifter in park or neutral and it starts, it's your NSS. Also if you are pretty sure the reverse lights went away right at the time of no-start, that's a pretty sure sign. Rebuild link here. If maybe the lights were out before, it could well be something else. If you can locate the correct socket at the starter relay you could check that the Ign. switch is jucen it like it should. (also you can jump it from where that relay goes). If you can't then the, (likely green) wire from the relay to the solonoid is not maken it.

Its all there at that relay. You could also see if the NSS is grounding it, (in park and neutral)

Found the problem,the nss was loose at the tranny.Tightened it up and it now starts but in all gears and no backup lights.What steps should I take to get it back aligned correctly so it will only start in park and neutral.

Huh..that's a new one. Anyway he explains how he adjusted his at the end of that link. If it won't adjust, something might be wrong.
