Exclamation NP242 Transfer case rebuild help; won't shift right

Hey guys, I'm having trouble with my '94 XJ with an NP242-J that I need some help with. I did a quick "rebuild" in which I changed the the drive chain, some seals, and the range fork pads, didn't mess with any bearings and now it won't shift right. In the bottom of the front half of the case there is a 7/8" plug that holds a detent spring and pin that keeps the T-Case in the selected gear and keeps it from popping out of gear or when driving. I replaced that detent spring and pin because mine somehow got off track with the gear selector teeth and the spring and pin were destroyed. The problem I am having is that when the plug is turned all the way in, the T-Case won't shift all all, it wont even budge. By screwing the plug out, and therefore releasing some of the pressure on the spring and pin, I can get it so that it will shift normally. However, if I screw it out too much it keeps popping out of 4LO into N because there isn't enough pressure on the detent spring and pin to keep it in gear. With the pin and spring all the way out (removed) the T-case will easily go through the full range of gears but obviously won't stay so I know it's not anything bound up in the shift linkage or internally in the T-Case.

Questions are; Has anyone ever heard of this? Is there a reliable fix? Does anyone know if these are the right part numbers for the detent spring and pin

Spring: 4638497
Pin: 53008217

I'm concerned whether or not that I got the right part numbers for the spring and pin because I also ordered an O-Ring that goes between the plug and the T-Case housing that was definitely not the right size.

Any help is appreciated.

Are you sure you put the detent spring in the right hole? I believe the indicator switch uses the same thread size, but the detents for the switch are too close and it will bind the spring
