Nothing happens when I try to turn on the A/C or heater
Everything worked fine a month or so ago. I went to turn on the A/C the other day and nothing happened (no air, no sound, etc...). I tired the heater and it too did nothing. I am hoping it is a fuse, but I cannot figure out which one it is. There is no A/C or Heater fuse that I can find. Any tips on where to look and what the issue is most likely?
The wife and I are going on a little trip and having the A/C working would be nice.
Thanks in advance!

Ok, I found the blower motor fuse and it was blown and melted. I put a new fuse in and when I tried to turn in the air, I noticed the RPMs dropped slightly, so something is working that was not before, but still no air/heat. What should I check next?
Many thanks for your reply!

Drivers side kick panel/ fuse box, it will say blower motor. Pull all your fuses one by one and check..... Do you have a volt meter? How's your battery?
"Melted" fuse ? That's not good !
Hopefully someone will chime in with some knowledge on AC issues

Brand new Yellow battery, just replaced the "Big 3" wiring with wiring kit from Kelley WIP. The fuse did not blow again when trying to turn the air/heat on. I do not feel anything coming out of the vents, but did notice a drop in RPMs when I moved the slider. Yes I have a volt meter.

I can turn my AC on when I'm at Idol and it will blow cold all day long, but once I start driving most of the time it will just blow the fuse. It may also be an issue with your (resistor )located inside the cab passenger side, underneath the glove box. BTW. Haven't tried replacing my resistor yet.
Start the process of finding any melted wires if your fuse is melted then you definitely have a short somewhere I would imagine.

A little further digging...
The Hi/Low switch on the temp controller was bunned/melted along with the plug. I am going to get a new switch right now and replace the resistor too while I am in there.
Is the plug OK to put a new switch on? It's burned but not as bad as some that I have seen pics of. I just need the darn thing to work for a couple of days and when I get back, I can tear it all apart.

I found this thread and it looks like i can just cut the plug off and reinstall it the switch with insulated terminals. I am picking up the switch and resistor at 5pm from AutoZone, so wish me luck! IF this doesn't fix it, then its the blower motor and that is not a this week project.

Well, hoping someone else will chime in with some good advice..
Looking to resolve my issue too with my blower motor fuse blowing?
It's also good to snap some pics of your burnt wires ect. Helps for better response here.
Check back with an update too lets us know what the issue was .
Also keep a fire extinguisher on hand just in case.

Would the blender door and vacuum lines have a symptom of nothing turning on (no moving air, no sound or no RPM drop)? I am hoping to get some time to install the new switch and resistor today at some point.

Success!!!
I replaced the switch, removed the plug and installed insulated terminals and replaced the resistor. At first it did not work, but i popped the blower motor fuse out while I had the A/C switched to on and put the fuse back in and presto! No pissed wife tomorrow!
Its not ice cold, but cooler than the outside air. I will see about recharging the system before I go. Does anyone know the pressure for a 96 XJ? I don't see a sticker on my radiator. How do I know how much pressure is in there now?
Thanks all for the guidance!
