Default np242 rebuild

I just pulled my transfer case and rebuilt it because it was leaking and now after I reinstalled it last night it takes longer to engage when I put the transmission into drive/reverse, also once it does go it seems that there is slippage and takes more power to get going. when I come to a stop at a stop light after 10-20 seconds I feel what I am assuming to be the transmission finally shifting back into first.

any info about what could be the cause?

the transfer case should not effect the transmission

I didn't loose any fluid out of the tranny and replaced the tranny filter about 2 months ago. Just thought that since the tranny shifted fine before I pulled the T-case and then was giving me probs after that some how the two were related. After I reconnected the battery my electrical system is acting funny as well, the clock in the radio keeps flashing and periodically the idiot lights in the dash will flash and my xj even died once while driving, but restarted no prob...weird.

Check your vacuum connections on the trans. it shifts via 4 solinoids that are controlled by vacuum.

I don't think the trans is vacuum controlled
its controlled by electric solenoids

Thanks guys, I will have to get under it tonight or this weekend and check for loose connections, but didn't see anything obvious when I was putting the t-case back in last night, but maybe something got disconnected when I was lowering it a bit to gain access to some of the bolts.

Hi,

Maybe this issue is already fixed but it sounds to me that this is a problem with the automatic transmission. This problem often occur when you got a pressure leak within the transmission. It takes longer time to build up needed pressure and therfore it takes longer time to get a gear engaged...

I think the issue may be in your battery connection-you state you are having electrical issues since you disconnected and reconnected your battery, and your trans is electrically controlled, so where you disconnected is where I would look.
Good luck!

Since I was having probs I have changed the tranny fluid and had a water pump failure and changed that as well as cleaned up all my battery connections and now all is well.
