Default NP232 Problem?

I have a ‘93 Cherokee. T-case has about 290k on it. I’ve noticed the shifter won’t go into Neutral or 4-Lo and then when I do put it in Part Time or Full Time it doesn’t immediately show up on info center so I’m unsure if everything is actually working. Pretty new to everything so I’d appreciate any guidance.

First off, is it full of clean fluid?

Shift it this way:

Here's how the factory suggests you shift the transfer case and I've been doing this since these things were new and I worked at the dealership. Quoted from the owner's manual. The suggestions in CAPS are mine.

"To engage, shift the transfer case lever from 2H to 4H while the vehicle is moving at any legal speed". I LET OFF THE GAS, THROW THE LEVER, TAP THE GAS AND LET OFF.

4L position: " To engage, slow the vehicle to 2-3 MPH , shift the transmission to Neutral, then shift the transfer lever to the right and pull firmly rearward to 4L".

TO SHIFT OUT OF 4L, SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL WITH THE VEHICLE STOPPED, SHIFT THE TRANSFER CASE LEVER TO 2H, THEN THE TRANS TO D IF YOU HAVE AN AUTOMATIC, OR INTO FIRST GEAR WITH A MANUAL, AND CONTINUE ON.

It does most likely need a fluid change, I've been meaning to get to it but because of school just haven't had time. I'll do a fluid change and shift like you said and report back, thanks for the information! Greatly appreciated

Remove the fill plug BEFORE the drain plug. If it does still have fluid in it and the drain plug is frozen, you can still drive it if you have to. If you remove the drain first and find the fill plug is frozen, youre not going anywhere. Well, you can, but the transfer case will not be happy.

Replaced T-Case fluid. Still having the same problem. The shifter doesn't get pass Full Time. Could it be a linkage issue? Also when I do shift into Part time or Full Time it doesn't automatically show up on Information Center? Would that be a sensor issue? I appreciate any help

Could be a linkage issue. How are your engine and trans mounts?

all 4 tires the same size and brand?
Shifting per my instructions?

Engine and trans mounts are good. Got around to it again last night, shifted just like you said and didn't have any problem. Everything worked. Appreciate the guidance
