Took my 96 Cherokee to a local shop and while it was in air on car lift I could turn the front drive shaft and can hear what sounds like rocks rolling in the transfer case. Also while in gear and driving in 2wd it makes noise. If I don't repair this is it safe to drive on the road until I can afford to fix it?? Thank you in advance for help!!

or even worse, you could lock your t-case up on the freeway from a broken chain or sprocket and you will be going home in a body bag, so cough up the doe and get it fixed, or at least crack it open and take a look if you have the right tools handy
