NP231 yoke issue? Front shaft removed - noise gone!
Hi guys, we're onto something.
My Jeep is making this noise -->
So I removed the front drive shaft and it stopped!
Here is my NP231 yoke, sounds and feels like a bad bearing or maybe not? --> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6V9...ature=youtu.be
I wanted the issue to be in the cardon joint of the drive shaft, but before I rebuild that I need to know if my TC yoke is FUBAR..
Thanks!

I'm sorry, I'm confused. The driveshaft isn't connected there. Before I rebuild the driveshaft (which wouldn't hurt and will be done), do I need to rebuild something in the Tcase as well? The DS joints "look & feel" OK,but this TC yoke doesn't look and feel OK to me. But that's why Im asking, if it is. Thanks

Two XJ guys told me theirs don't sound like that. But I hear you. Before I tear into that I should get the drive shaft rebuilt.
The U joints are dry, but intact and not seized, pins are there. The u joints in the double cardan pivot ok, ball looks OK but definitely seems dry. I see a gap between it and the boot.
I have to say for what it's worth, when I pivot the cardan joint at all 4 EXTREME corners and work the joint around in a circle, the ball feels chunky.
The guy in the video above is my EXACT sound, only I do have it in 2wd all the time when going slow it's audible. I'll start with the DS and cross my fingers.

Unless you have a front axle disconnect, the front driveline always turns. That is why you hear it in any mode when moving
Thank you! I don't seem to get the famous chirping sound, but definitely that low growly popping when going slow. The centering ball doesn't seem stiff or to have much play, but it was definitely bone dry. I might also grab a $5 shaft for giggles from the yard because even if another is worn, I doubt it'lll manifest exactly as mine does. And if it fixes or changes the sound then that's all the confirm I need. I just don't want it to be in the transfer case right now. Lol I appreciate the help.
