Np231 question
Ok her goes. Purchased a1996 cj po said transfer case was replaced with one from a liberty. Anyway drove it home and noticed the speedometer doesn't work. Underneath noticed the wiring harness to the speedometer just dangling there and no place for it to go. I think the liberty speedometer sensor is in the rear end. Was wondering if I could just possibly change the rear tail shaft housing and add speedo gears?

Welcome to the forum Den. I'm no real help except I've never heard of a speedo running off the rear differential. If here doesn't help, maybe try posting up in "ask a question" thread. Good luck! (be warned, the weekends can be slow)

A little slack please, C and X are right next to each other on the keyboard
OP most of the newer models get speedo data from the wheel sensors or the transmission. The output shaft on that transfer case may not even be cut for a speedo.
Cheapest out (but most work) is going to be replacing the transfer case
Something like might work with an XJ output housing. No idea.
You might also look into JB SYE that has an independent speedo
