NP231 knockin noise
So I picked up a spare/replacement/second NP231 today. Why? My 1999 with 318,000 KM on it mated to the AX-15 has some slop in it and the original ATF... The unit I picked up came from a 1998 AX-15 with 200,000 KM and the price was right so I figured why not. Like a total idiot, I forgot to check to see if there was a knocking sound when the rear drive shaft was turned with the input shaft being held (basically grab each shaft with each hand and twist). Of course, there's some play, and it makes a very familiar knocking noise.
What amount of play is normal? I'm looking at doing a rebuild (this way I won't break my DD, and cheaper than a new one... plus looks like fun). I've found some threads and videos on how to rebuild and someone posted an older NP231 service manual on Pirate 4x4 so that's going to help a lot. Any advice or experience? Is this probably the planetary gear assembly or should a rebuild with bearing replacement likely fix this?
Thanks

lol indeed.
Nope got another TC to throw in once I'm done with the SYE... once there's a (uni)frame to bolt the transmission back on to.
Never cared enough to track down the exact source of the noise.
