Np 242 SYE or long travel yoke?
I am looking for a NP 242 SYE and can't find any. I found one paired with a tom woods drive shaft, but since front drive shafts will work and can be picked up cheaply at a JY thats the route i'm going to take. Or should i get a long travel yoke?
I am pushin 5" on 2000, which means Low Pinion turdy 5.

I got my SYE for my 89 Cherokee 242 from MIT, Mechanically Inclined Technicians in El Cajon. The kit replaced the slip yoke output shaft with a fixed output shaft. I did it myself in one day using a lift at the auto hobby shop on base. The hardest part was the stock snap rings because they did not have the holes in the end to grip on to. I then got a drive shaft from Tom Woods. Very happy with this combination.

I looked the the IRO and think thats the way I will go. I now have a x mass gift. hahaha. How complicated is the install? I have done eneverything to my Jeep this far and would like to continue like that. Also, thanks a lot for the info guys!

It's fairly simple. I installed the IRO hack and tap sye. Basically all it takes is an angle grinder, and some patience. I did have to modify the yoke, however. The one they sent me was too long. No big deal though.

OOPS posted that in the wrong thread le try that again....
When i did my hack N tap i sook pics as i did it check out this link. a little info on what you are in for. it is not hard at all. i had my t-case out when i did it but it is just as easy to leave it in. just remove both drive shafts and put the t-case in 4LOW and start the engine and put it in gear and let it idle while you are cutting it. pice of cake.

i would put in 4low so the shaft turns nice and slow when you cut it. i dont think you want it to turn too fast while you cut it. and removing the front shaft to keep the front wheels from turning. like i said i had my case out when i did mine. i didnt do in in the vehicle. so what ever worked for you worked well then.
