As long as you keep the little squarish tab the linkage connects to on the the T-case (231's on it and 242'ss on it). It's rather close if not right on for the shifter.

Why change to a sub par T-case when you have the one that is more sought after.

Is it because you want to have to buy a Sye and Driveshaft for a 3in lift or that you hate have a better 4wd selection than those with a 231 or that people have problems with a 231 well before a 242 goes out.

well i was on the freeway and my u-joint blew out. It cracked the tail housing, and i had to drive home in 4 high and no rear drive shaft, so i figure driving it with oil pouring out the back had to do damage to the internals, and yea its easier for the sye. what do you think?

With a 231 you would have been stuck as you cannot drive them on the highway in 4 hi.

It's easier for a Sye and DS... not on your wallet that is for damn sure.

As long as it's wet or snow covered you can drive in 4-Hi with the 231 on the highway.

Also, the 231 has better aftermarket support and the SYE is cheaper then it is for the 242.

The 231 is said, also, to be a stronger transfer case because it has less internals compared to the 242.

They only say the 231 is stronger cause not as many people have the 242 lol, kinda like saying a 8.25 is the same as a D44.

I have a 242...

I have had both apart before. The 231 has less internally that could potentially break when beating on it hard off road.
